The 9/11 Heroes Race from a Racer's...ok, Participant's, Perspective

A beautiful day in the Doylestown Borough neighborhood for a walk through the streets for a good cause.

The annual 9/11 Heroes Run Doylestown Edition, organized by the Travis Manion Foundation, was held on Sunday, October 9.

It was a crisp, clear day, not unlike 9/11/01, the terrible day which produced the heroes that the 5K run honors. There are races all over the country, and since this was the hometown of Travis Manion, this is the signature race.

Members and relatives of Doylestown Fire Company No. 1 have participated in the race as a team for the past three years. This year there were 15 firefighters, wives and children participating.

The course took runners and walkers alike through Doylestown, from the start on Court Street next to  into the heart of the borough past the , back out to  and back to Fonthill. More than 1,200 registered runners took part in the 1-mile Fun Run and 5K run.

I set off slowly from the start line with my 11-year-old daughter Megan, camera over my shoulder. I haven't particpated in a race of this distance since high school. Meg's longest was 2 miles. So it was a first for both of us.

We didn't finish last, or fast, but we broke the magic 1-hour mark. And it was a beautiful day for a walk in the borough.

Thanks to everyone who stayed on course to cheer us along!
