Blaze Brigade Firefighter Cadet Camp coming soon!

The Blaze Brigade, a joint project of Doylestown Fire Company No. 1 and Central Bucks Family YMCA, is a program for kids from 8-14 years old who are interested in learning about fire prevention and volunteer firefighters. This is the first year of the program, which has it's roots in the Firefighter Cadet Camp that was also sponsored by Doylestown Fire Co. and the CBFYMCA, held in June of 2012 at the fire company's Warden Road station.The members of the Blaze Brigade meet monthly at a fire related location. For the first 3 meetings, they met at both Doylestown stations and learned about the trucks housed at the stations. The cadets got to tour the engines, ladder and rescue trucks and learn about the equipment and the tasks they undertake at fires. The 10 kids in the program, both boys and girls, represent 4 Bucks County fire companies- Doylestown, Warwick, Lingohocken and Newtown. The program is designed and open to any child in the Central Bucks area, regardless of their geographic location. Registration is done through the Y, as well as administrative tasks related to the group. All of the Central Bucks area fire companies are involved in the program. This is envisioned as a pre-Explorer program, as kids who are 14 can graduate to the Fire Explorer program in their area. The next step is Junior, at age 16, when the cadets can become members of their local fire company, and then 18, when they can become active firefighters.During the 90 minute meetings, cadets are exposed to the basics of firefighting, fire prevention education and tasks for home safety, and hands on fun. Flowing water with a real fire hose, touring trucks, trying and learning about equipment are all part of a day's fun. The cadets also love to participate in fire company activities, and are active truck washers.
