One way we can simplify our lives is to apply some time management strategies.

Below are some time saving tips all of us can learn from to ease our stress and create the time we need!

Stop playing phone tag….

Don’t just leave a message. Give specific days and time-frames when you know you can answer the phone. Slowly state your phone number and speak clearly! You know how many times I have wasted 10 mins of my life replaying a message over and over trying to decide if the last number was a five or a nine!

Avoid scrap of paper syndrome…

A simple solution to this problem is to carry around at all times a journal or Day-Timer. For the techies in the world, you can use an online “notepad” or other online note keeping system like Evernote. There are thousands of task management systems out there, but no matter what you choose, create a habit of it. Be sure to record all information that you’ll likely need to refer to. This makes note retrieval easy and accessible at all times. So much time is lost digging through post-its and scraps of paper like wishful little dreams scattered across your house, office and car.

Say no to unnecessary interruptions…

When you need to get structured work done, one of the best ways to do so is to avoid all interruptions. This is the time you need to separate yourself from everyone else’s agendas and focus strictly on whatever important task you have on hand at the moment. Turn of alarms, cell phones and email notifications, lock your door, or better yet if allowed, leave the office and go to that place that allows supports your productivity. (I often sneak off after dinner to a quiet Starbucks or hide in the library when I want to be massively productive.)

Put your dreams in your face…

One of the silliest little strategies I’ve learned since starting my business is writing goals. I don’t mean the financials and projections, but the fun stuff. A picture of what your business looks like when it’s where you want it to be. The fleet of cars marked Task Complete driving all over helping overwhelmed professionals and seniors everywhere! (Oh yeah… that’s one of my dreams) Seriously though, the things that are visible and in our face are the things we naturally focus on. Use a poster, a colored display, or even a digital video that replays as a screensaver. Whatever medium you choose, it becomes a subconscious force towards your dreams. When in doubt as to what to focus your time and effort on, all you need do is look!
