Univest Accepting Donations for Knock Out Hunger

Cash donations are being accepted at all 15 Bucks County branches, part of the United Way of Bucks County's effort to pack at least 64,000 meals for food insecure residents.

The following was provided by the United Way of Bucks County:

All Univest Bank and Trust Co. financial service centers in Bucks County are now official donation drop-off locations for United Way of Bucks County's Bucks Knocks Out Hunger campaign.

From now until August 9, donations (cash or check) will be accepted.  Simply let a Univest teller know that you want to make a deposit into the UW Bucks' BKO Hunger account. Companies and organizations can also drop off the change from their BKO Hunger donation canisters at any of the 15 Bucks County Univest locations.

Bucks Knocks Out Hunger includes a food packing event that will be held on August 9 in Warminster at Ann's Choice. The goal is to pack a minimum of 64,000 meals, one for each food insecure resident of Bucks County. Each meal costs just 25 cents, so the minimum fundraising goal is $16,000.

However, the more money raised, the more can be provided.  The most ambitious fundraising goal is $36,000 which would allow volunteers to pack 100,000 meals.  It would also provide apples, chicken and ground beef to food pantries as well as provide funding for Rolling Harvest Food Rescue to work with Bucks County farmers to get fresh, local produce to food pantries within the Bucks County Opportunity Council network.

Pantries are in dire need of these supplies. Since Hurricane Sandy, food pantries have struggled to keep their shelves stocked. Receiving meals, meat and produce will give these pantries some relief and provide patrons with more nutritious options.

UW Bucks is almost halfway to its goal of $36,000, thanks in part to the generosity of its "heavyweight" donors. Now it needs the involvement of the larger community, and that is where Univest comes in. By allowing donations to be dropped off at any Bucks County location, they make giving a little easier. Univest is also counting and depositing the change from the donation canisters placed at businesses throughout the county, making it easier for them to empty their canister so it can be filled again.
