Donation Yoga Class to Support Veterans Suffering from PTSD

A charity yoga class will be held Sunday at The Solebury Club to benefit Meghan's Foundation.

The Solebury Club is holding an event this weekend to support veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The club will hold a Svaroopa style yoga class Sunday to benefit Meghan’s Foundation, an organization that offers local yoga and medication classes for veterans suffering from PTSD. Local classes are held in Newtown, Bristol, Doylestown and Hellertown.

Meghan’s Foundation pays for certified trauma sensitive yoga instructors, practice manuals for each veteran so they can continue their practices, yoga mats, fees for rental space if necessary and other supplies.

“The Svaroopa style of yoga is a slow, gentle, safe style of yoga, using supporting props such as blankets and blocks, in every pose. This support allows you to experience the maximum healing benefits of the poses without strain. The poses are simple and most are done lying or sitting, with no sense of striving or struggling. Svaroopa is a yoga done for personal healing and inner serenity, not for athleticism or competition,” according to an announcement from the Solebury Club.

Sunday's one-hour class begins at 10:30 a.m.

Maureen Shortt will teach the class, which is open to the community with a suggested donation of $10. Participants must be able to come in and out of poses in a timely manner with ease. No yoga experience is necessary to participate.
