'Cranksgiving' is Saturday

Bikers will ride 26 miles to support the local food pantry during an event Saturday.

Doylestown Bike Works is hosting its second annual Cranksgiving food drive event this weekend.

On Saturday, bikers will ride 26 miles, visiting three area supermarkets. Riders will purchase items at each of the three supermarkets and place in collection areas. The items will be donated to the Bucks County Housing Group’s local food pantry.

The local event is part of a nationwide effort to help fight hunger. The first Cranksgiving was held in New York City in 1999. This is the second year Bucks County has had one. Last year's Cranksgiving event generated 945 pounds of food for the local pantry.

“This year's course is a 26-mile road ride of moderate difficulty. The ride occurs on public roads, which are not closed to traffic. The ride visits three supermarkets in Doylestown Borough, Doylestown Township and Plumsteadville,” the event website says.

Registration for this event is free, the only cost is for the canned goods purchased at the supermarkets for donation. Register online or in person at the event.
