Concert Series Raises Money, Food for Local Food Pantry

More than 400 pounds of food and $1,700 was raised during three concerts in late October and early November.

Three musical events held over the past two weeks have raised more than $1,700 and hundreds of pounds of food for the Doylestown Food Pantry, organizers said.

The money and more than 400 pounds of food will be delivered to the pantry Wednesday.

Two of the three events, organized by the campaign team of Ron Strouse for Doylestown Mayor, were held in late October. A final musical performance was held Monday at Siren Records.

On Oct. 25, Philadelphia hip hop group, Ground Up, performed at Siren Records. Doylestown native Justin Guarini and his funk band, The Payback, performed at M.O.M.’s on Oct. 28.

All three events were filled to capacity, according to organizers.

The Doylestown Food Pantry serves more than 80 families a week and gives out over 1,600 pounds of food each week.

“We wanted the shows and publicity to help raise support for the Doylestown Food Pantry and to raise awareness about the upcoming election. We knew that the following the artists have can reach more young people with a message that their voice and vote matter,” said Ron Strouse.

“We had an immediate response from local merchants, musicians and activists who stepped up to the plate. All three shows were packed, wildly successful and filled with the positive energy of good folks coming together for a good cause,” says Community Organizer Marlene Pray, a past manager of the local food pantry who helped organize the shows.
