The community is rallying to support a local teen fighting a rare disease.
Hailey Bekos, a Lenape Middle School 8th grader, has been recently diagnosed with a rare disease and the community is supporting her with a Zumbathon.
In July, Hailey was diagnosed with Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis, a disease in which the immune system attacks the nervous system.
The disease is greatly impacting her brain function, according to information posted by her family on the Hope for Hails website.
To help support the family, friends and community members are holding a Zumba event on Nov. 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Lenape Middle School, 313 W. State St.
A $10 donation is requested and all of the proceeds will be donated to the Bekos family. The event will also feature a silent auction, raffle and live music.
