CB Looks to Raise $50K in Upcoming Coaches Vs. Cancer Events

In six years, the local Coaches vs. Cancer basketball events have raised more than $250,000 to fight cancer.

Central Bucks is gearing up for its annual Coaches vs. Cancer event to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

The main event is Saturday, Feb. 8 and will feature a three-on-three basketball tournament at Central Bucks East. There is also a Central Bucks East versus Central Bucks West doubleheader night on Jan. 29. The girls will play at 6 p.m. and the boys at 8 p.m.

In six years, the local Coaches vs. Cancer basketball effort has raised more than $250,000 to fight cancer. This year, student organizers hope to raise $50,000 through a series of events. So far, more than $32,000 has been raised, according to the online donation page.

“I am proud of what our team has accomplished in the past six years,” said Bennett Kardane, a Central Bucks East senior and basketball player who serves on the event’s student committee.

“We work very hard all year and have been recognized by the American Cancer Society as the number one Coaches vs. Cancer school initiative program in the country,” he added.

Registration for the Feb. 8 tournament is now open; there are divisions for boys and girls from grades three through 12. The cost is $25 per player.

If you don’t want to play but want to attend, the suggested donation is $5. In addition to the three-on-three tournament, East seniors will play East teachers, plus there will be a performance by the Kutz Jump Rope Team, food, prizes, raffle baskets, a silent auction and more.

Additionally, there are four remaining Eat to Beat Cancer fundraising events at local restaurants. If you eat at these local restaurants on the scheduled date, a portion of your check will be donated to fundraising for Coaches vs. Cancer.

Here's the schedule of upcoming Eat to Beat Cancer events:

  • Uno's Pizzeria in Warrington on Sunday, Jan. 26 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voucher required, click here to download and print.
  • Panera Bread in Doylestown on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 4 to 9 p.m,
  • Artistic Pizzeria in Doylestown on Friday, Jan. 31 from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Candlewyck in Buckingham on Monday, Feb. 3 from 4 p.m. until close
