Leasing Land for New Farm Enterprises: A Workshop for Landowners and Farmers


This event will offer an overview of leasing land for agricultural use. Producers and property owners interested in making their land available to farmers are encouraged to attend. Topics covered will include an overview of farmland leasing, developing relationships between farmers and landowners, models for land access, assessments of farmland and resources in the southeastern Pennsylvania region.

5:30 PM– Welcome: Jeff Marshall, President, Heritage Conservancy
                               Challey Comer, FARMroots Director, Greenmarket

5:45 PM– Presentations:
            Marilyn Anthony, the Eastern Region Director of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture
           and Laura Siena, President of Lundale Farms, which leases 400 acres to farmers in Chester County
           will provide an introduction to land leasing in the region. They will share their experiences from working 
           with farmers and landowners and discuss developing relationships and common questions.

            Liz Lappin, the Land & Legal Specialist at GrowNYC/Greenmarket will offer her perspective as an attorney
            including ‘Ten Tips for negotiating a lease.’ She will also discuss different types of lease contracts and 
           compare options for land use arrangements.

6:45 PM– Panel – A discussion between landowners and farmers leasing land with a focus on developing and maintaining land use agreements. Questions from the audience will be fielded by the panel.
