In honor of Black History Month, the Doylestown Historical Society is presenting an exhibit featuring North Star, a film shot locally about Bucks County's role in helping one man escape from slavery in 1833 through the "underground railroad". This exhibit is open to everyone in the community!

The film is a courageous true story about Benjamin "Big Ben" Jones' life and includes Abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Bucks County's "Underground Railroad" of hiding places and trails was for people escaping the horrors of slavery. The difficulties of those escapes is showcased by the filmmakers as well as the role of a religious family in Buckingham.

The exhibit includes production photos, costumes and other items used in the production of North Star, and the tools needed to escape slavery are featured.

The Society is sponsoring a showing of "The North Star" at The County Theater on May 2.
