Cantus Novus Christmas Concert

Cantus Novus Presents “Coming Home…to Celebrate the Holidays”

Cantus Novus is pleased to announce the commencement of its 2013-2014 season under returning Artistic Director W. Edward McCall with a celebration of holiday music showcasing a rich and diverse repertoire that is close to heart and home:   “Coming Home…to celebrate the holidays.”

Beginning with early works — “Rejoice in the Lord Always” (anon) and Hassler’s “Angelus Ad Pastorus Ait,” the concert progresses to the more modern: Benjamin Britten’s “A Boy Was Born” and Z Randall Stroope’s “Hodie!” for chorus, brass, and organ.

Keeping with the theme of coming home, other works will feature local composers Steven Sametz, J.A. Kawarsky and T. Shelton, Jr., and audience participation in settings of familiar carols.  The choir will finish in celebration of this season of light with the gospel anthem “Let There Be Light.”

Performances are offered at 8:00 pm on Friday, December 6, 2013 at Trinity Episcopal Church (Solebury, PA); Saturday, December 7 at Newtown Presbyterian Church (Newtown, PA); and Sunday, December 8 at Christ Congregation, 50 Walnut Lane, Princeton, NJ.
