Bucks County Quartet ‘Not Your Typical Jazz Band’

Bucks County-based Eric Mintel Quartet will serve up jazz melodies infused with pop and rock staples as part of Crossing Vineyards' Summer Wine and Music Series on July 25.

The performance, which comes on the heels of the band's new CD, "Eric Mintel Quartet Live," will feature "lots of originals," blended with a variety of cover songs including tunes by Sting, Aerosmith, Coldplay and more, according to pianist, composer and bandleader, Eric Mintel, of Morrisville.

"We're not your typical jazz band," Mintel said of the high energy shows, which have been part of the Bucks County winery's summer wine and music series since its inception 11 years ago.

The upbeat shows typically draw younger crowds of folks in the 20 to 40 age range, Mintel said.

"We're seeing lots of new faces too," he added.

Like the pairing of jazz and wine, which Mintel said "always goes together," Mintel, for the July 25 performance, will be joined by his band: drummer Dave Mohn, of Washington Crossing; bassist Jack Hegyi, of Acton, N.J.; and alto saxophonist Nelson Hill, of Mt. Bethel. The Summer Wine and Music Series, which this year is being sponsored by Celebrity Cruises, will continue through Sept. 12.
