School of Rock Collecting for Food Bank

A donation will enter you to win a concert party or a private music lesson.

Musician and Doylestown School of Rock owner Michael Morpurgo spent 25 years honing his craft in concert venues around the world before he discovered the magic of teaching kids to play real, live rock shows. Now, he uses his Schools of Rock to instruct adults and kids age 7 to 17 on how to rock on stage and in life. In turn, Morpurgo has drawn up a new lesson plan for his students…how Rock and Roll can feed the hungry.

“I was amazed when I heard how empty the local food banks are right now,” said Morpurgo. “So I decided to prove to my students that Rock and Roll is a way to make a difference.”

To drive his point home, he is accepting non-perishable food donations at his school in Doylestown. His goal is to raise a half-ton of food for those in need by Christmas.

"For each food donation you make, you’ll get a chance to win our Canned Goods for a Concert party," he said. The drawing guarantees that a handful of donors will win a private concert featuring some of the world renowned School of Rock All-Stars.

As if that wasn’t enough of a reason to get involved, “You can also redeem your food donation for a small taste of our music program,” Morpurgo said. “Imagine, just donate a can of tomato soup and get a private rock lesson on the instrument of your choice. How cool is that? A can of soup can kick open the door to becoming a rock star!”

Non-perishable food donations can be dropped off at School of Rock Doylestown, 135 S. Main St., now through Dec. 23, 3 pm to 9 pm Monday to Thursday, 10 am to 5 pm Saturday. Donations will benefit The Doylestown Food Pantry, run by the Bucks County Housing Group.
