Regional Roundup: State Troopers Respond to Forgery Incidents at Parx

And Doylestown firefighters rescue a woman from a car smashed underneath a semi-truck.

: Among other incidents requiring state trooper attention, the state police responded to three incidents of reported forgery at Parx Casino on Sunday, Mar. 23 and Monday, Mar. 24. Three different people attempted to exchange counterfeit money at a cashier cage.

A driver had to be extricated from her car after a crash on Rt. 313 (Swamp Road) at Maple Avenue in Doylestown left the car smashed underneath a semi-tractor trailer the evening of Tuesday, Mar. 27.

: Since some public comment has begun to err on the abusive side, including personal attacks at board members or other township officials, the board is implementing a new set of rules for community members speaking during public comment to follow.

Because of the  teacher's eight-day strike in January, the board revised and approved this school year's calendar to ensure that students would complete the required 180 days of instruction by June 15. The board also approved the 2012-13 school calendar.

: James Alfieri and his daughter Sophia use to spend hours at the Newtown Library Company. He's since been diagnosed with ALS, also known as the Lou Gehrig’s disease. Friends of the family are working to ensure the library will always hold a memory of Sophia and her father by painting a mural in the library's children's room.

: What was once a busy shopping center is now a run-down Village Mall. The strip mall currently houses Acme and Dollar Tree stores and many vacant storefronts. Horsham Township Manager Bill Walker said land development plans have been in the works since 2008, but when the plans will progress is unknown.
