Poll Results: Say "No" to Gun Control

See what Doylestown Patch users had to say about this week's poll question.

On Monday, we asked Doylestown Patch users what they thought of recent shootings and gun control.

"Do you support stricter gun control laws? Why, or why not?" was the question.

Of the two dozen people who discussed the issue, nearly all said no. Most said that criminals don't obey the laws anyway, and civilians should be able to arm themselves in defense.

"Note how many laws the perpetrators of these two recent horrific acts just broke," noted Jona Franklin. "Bad guys are not out to abide by law and rule."

"Gun laws only hurt people who abide the law," said Robert Fiorentino. "Just like someone will get drugs if they want drugs, a psycho will get a gun if he wants one and no law will do anything about that."

Linda Ciulik Wisniewski said, "I support a return to the ban on assault weapons."

One gun owner, Mike L., doesn't favor stricter laws limiting access to guns, but said, "I do support stricter laws/controls to ensure that those who do own guns and can carry them, know how to use them."

Big Al recommended "Stiffen the laws for use of an unlicensed weapon. Stiffen the penalties for committing a crime with any weapon."

Thomas Fretz suggested another way to prevent tragedies.

"How about following up on people who exhibit suspect activities or thoughts," he said. In "almost all of these situations, we find out that someone suspected something. Let's follow up on these things."

Thanks to everyone for participating in this week's discussion. Check back Monday for our next poll question.
