Mercer Museum Commemorates the Civil War

The Doylestown museum will host two upcoming programs to mark the 150th anniversary of this country's bloodiest war.

The Mercer Museum will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War with two programs in May, "Civil War Sharpshooter," on Monday, May 16 and the museum's Annual Civil War Encampment on Memorial Weekend.

On Monday, May 16 at 12:30 p.m., The Friends of the Bucks County Historical Society present the program, "Civil War Sharpshooter," at the Mercer Museum.

Guests will meet 1st Sergeant, Wyman White, 2nd Reg-USS Sharpshooter, portrayed by re-enactor, Stanley Saperstein.  Learn about the soldier's uniform, weapons, and the Civil War from a sharpshooter's perspective.

The Mercer's Annual Civil War Encampment will be held on the grounds of the museum on Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, May 29 from noon-5 p.m. 

Living historians will introduce visitors to the early days of the Civil War in the North. Visitors can interact with engineers and map makers, join the ranks of new recruits to the Union Army, watch medical demonstrations, meet local civilians, and participate in special demonstrations and activities.

The Annual Civil War Encampment takes place rain or shine and is included with museum admission. Mercer Museum admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors (age 65+), $4 for youth (ages 5-17) and free for children under 5 and members.
