Irene Postpones DelVal Move-in

The college in Doylestown Township asks students to wait a day to move in, delays start of classes.

Irene is not the popular girl on campus at DelVal.

The hurricane has forced the college in Doylestown Township to cancel the student move-in scheduled for Sunday. Classes that were set to begin on Monday also have been canceled,

"We want everyone to check in on Monday, simply because the hurricane is scheduled to hit on Sunday," spokesman Lanny Morgnanesi said Friday.

Many students already are on campus, Morgnanesi said, including freshmen, who moved in on Thursday. Upperclass student residence hall advisers, football players and soccer players also are already on campus, he said.

But most of the college's 1,700 students were scheduled to arrive on Sunday.

Welcome week activities will continue through noon Saturday, Morgnanesi said, but everything after that will be canceled until the storm passes.

The students who are already on campus have been told they are free to return home if they choose, Morgnanesi said. The college's student life staff is coordinating plans for those who choose to remain.

"They will make sure everyone is safe and sound and comfortable," he said.
