Gun Rights Activists Rally in Doylestown

About 200 gun rights activists rallied Saturday in support of a House bill that would make any federal law that attempts to register, restrict or ban a firearm unenforceable in Pennsylvania.

About 200 gun rights activists attended a rally in Doylestown Saturday to support state legislation that would make any new federal firearms control laws unenforceable in Pennsylvania.

Members of the crowd, which included everyone from children to the elderly, brought their signs and their guns.

The rally, organized by The Concerned Gun Owners of Bucks County, was a demonstration in support of PA House Bill 357.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Daryl Metcalfe of Butler County, would make any federal law that attempts to register, restrict or ban a firearm or to limit the size of a magazine unenforceable in Pennsylvania. The bill would impose penalties for enforcement.

Representative Paul Clymer, who is a co-sponsor of the bill, spoke at the rally.

"Our Constitution states, we the people—that means you and I—we are provided special rights and privileges. Among them is Second Amendment rights," Clymer said.

Clymer said laws that aim to restrict or limit gun purchases are not the answer to quelling violence. "We need a rebirth of traditional family values that emphasize civility, honesty, right and wrong behavior and respect for human life," he said.
