Farmers' Market to Return to Doylestown

The market will run from April 21 to Nov. 17.

Heirloom tomatoes, local sweetcorn and handmade soaps will be returning to downtown Doylestown again this summer.

Doylestown Borough Council members on Monday unanimously approved the license for this year's Doylestown Farmers' Market. The official approval clears the way for the weekly market to return again to Hamilton Street in just a few short weeks.

"I think the farmers market program is great," council member David Laustsen said before the vote. "It’s self policing; it’s clean. I hope that the council will support this motion."

Council president Det Ansinn joked that shopping at the local market was not optional for the nine council members.

"It’s a requirement of being up here at the dais," Ansinn joked, adding, "we’re honored to have a lively and successful farmers’ market."

The Buckingham Civic Association started the farmers' market in 1973. For the first few years, it was held in Buckingham, but it was moved to Doylestown in 1976, to take advantage of the foot traffic in town.

It's been in the borough ever since.

The market runs from 7 a.m. to noon every Saturday on Hamilton Street, at West State Street.

In past years, vendors have offered a wide range of products, including locally grown, seasonal vegetables and fruits, flowers, plants and herbs, handmade soaps, homemade breads and baked goods, grass-fed beef, organic poultry and even baby chicks.
