Doylestown Detective is on the Case

Each week in this space, we usually test your knowledge of Doylestown history and trivia with a photo to identify.

This week, we're teaming up with the Doylestown Bicentennial Committee to help sponsor the Doylestown Detectives.

Each Wednesday for the next five weeks, we'll publish two clues to a Doylestown history puzzler.

Here are this week's clues:

1. I originated in 1812 again in 1877 and 1960 but now I feel I just don't fit in! Gotta go! What am I?

2. Until May 1985 the "Pine Street Hotel" provided free room and board, but no one really wanted to stay there. Now it expands our minds to the beauty of Bucks County and the world. What was I?

Prizes will be awarded to winners selected at random from the winning entries at the bicentennial picnic on Saturday, June 2, at 3:30 p.m. at the .

The Doylestown Detective history hunt is part of the Doylestown Bicentennial Celebration. The week of events kicks off Memorial Day, May 28, 2012 and marks the 200th anniversary of Doylestown becoming the county seat of Bucks County.

Planned events include an art exhibit, moustache contest, antique car show, cemetery tours, walking tours of Doylestown, tours of James-Lorah House, musical performances, a community picnic and so much more.
