Construction Work to Affect Area Roads

Check this roundup of area roadwork before heading out.

Drivers may encounter lane closures and slow moving traffic on several state roads this week (Sept. 4-7) for construction of the Route 202 Parkway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.

The new 8.4 mile, $200 million state-funded Parkway will open later this fall to enhance travel between Montgomeryville and Doylestown.

Final paving at the southern end of the Parkway will restrict travel on Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) between Swedesford and Knapp roads and on Route 63 (Welsh Road) between Stump and North Wales roads on Thursday and Friday (Sept. 6-7) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Paving also may extend into the evening hours both nights.

Both route 202 (DeKalb Pike) and Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Lower Gwynedd, Upper Gwynedd and Montgomery townships were widened to four lanes, with turn lanes at their intersection, to improve traffic flow to and from the Parkway.

Upper State Road will be closed to through traffic and detoured between Route 463 (Horsham Road) and County Line Road in Warrington and Horsham townships from 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 to 6 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10 for reconstruction. Upper State Road through traffic will be detoured over Route 463 (Horsham Road), Kenas Road and County Line Road.

Lane closures also will be in place Tuesday through Friday (Sept. 4-7) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for overhead sign construction on Route 202 (Doylestown Road) between County Line Road and Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) in New Britain Township.

Sign construction will require short-term lane closures on Cowpath Road just west of the Five Points Intersection in Hatfield Township on Tuesday through Friday (Sept. 4-7) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pickertown Road remains closed between Upper State and Stump Roads in New Britain and Warrington townships for construction of the bridge to carry the road over the Parkway.

Motorists should anticipate delays and add extra time for travel through the construction areas. All planned activities are contingent on the weather.
