Celebrity Chef Gala Highlights Local Food

The foodie gala is a major fundraiser for the community agency CB Cares.

The Singing Waitress will be waiting tables Sunday for a good cause.

Devyn Rush, of New Hope, who competed on American Idol this season, will be a celebrity waiter at the fourth annual Celebrity Chef & Waiter Gala. Held on Sunday at the Doylestown Country Club, the event is a major fundraiser for the community organization CB Cares.

The idea for the gala was conceived by CB Cares director Kimberly Cambra, who came to the Doylestown-based community group after an extensive background in the food industry. A foodie at heart, Cambra wanted to put her passion for dining together with her love of locally grown and produced ingredients.

The result is an event that features ingredients grown and raised within about 15 miles of the table, Cambra said. The goal was for each vendor or supplier to use less than one gallon of gas to get to the event.

"Where else can you partake in the most exciting gastronomic event in Bucks County while supporting youth and parent programs and our local farmers at the same time?" Cambra said this week in a statement. "When your name is CB Cares – Cares begins from the ground up."

The evening will begin with a reception showcasing three local farmers, who will create tasting stations featuring their products, Cambra said. The reception is being organized David Zuckerman, manager of Earl’s Bucks County restaurant in Peddler's Village.

During the reception, guests will be able to bid on auction items, including a five-day travel package to the Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa in Puerto Rico, a trip to see the Phillies in spring training in Clearwater, and an array of gourmet wares.

Dinner will consist of three courses paired with wines.

But the real fun will come with the service. Local celebrities, community leaders, elected officials will serve as wait staff, competing to earn "tips" to donate to the cause. The waiter who earns the most receives the "Most Appreciated Waiter" award at the end of the night, Cambra said.

Headlining in the kitchen will be Emmy award-winning cookbook author Janet Zappala, who will create the main course for the evening’s menu with inspiration from her latest cookbook, My Italian Kitchen. The book is available for purchase in person or online at Doylestown Bookshop.

The Gala runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call (215) 205-9306.
