Carol Higgins Clark to Speak at Library Luncheon

The mystery writer will be the guest author at the annual author luncheon on April 28.

Mystery writer Carol Higgins Clark will be the featured speaker at a luncheon this month organized by the Friends of the Library Center, Doylestown.

She will headline the Friends' annual Author Luncheon scheduled for April 28 at Warrington Country Club in Doylestown Township.

The daughter of best selling author Mary Higgins Clark co-wrote five books with her mother. She has said she learned the basics of fiction writing as she retyped her mother's manuscripts and offered her suggestions for character names and plot locations.

On her own, she has written 15 books featuring private investigator Regan Reilly, the most recent of which, Gypped, was released Tuesday, April 3.

While Regan is not Higgins Clark's alter ego, she is the daughter of a successful mystery writer; however, Regan has established her career as a private investigator. The recurring heroine of fourteen novels, Regan first appeared in Decked published in 1992.

One year later, having written her second Regan Reilly mystery set amid a pantyhose convention, Higgins Clark was searching for a title and lightheartedly suggested Snagged. It stuck and thus established the title format for her mysteries that all end in "-ed."  Suspense is a key ingredient in all of the author's novels but inevitably her sense of humor also emerges.

The Author Luncheon is an annual event sponsored by the Friends of the Library Center, Doylestown. The Friends organization has a dual mission to offer financial support to the library as well as to introduce authors speaking about their works to the community. The Friends annual book sale provides the funds to assist the library and underwrites the Author Luncheon.

Tickets are on sale for $40 at the circulation desk at the Doylestown Library, 150 S. Pine Street, and will be available until April 23.  Luncheon choices include chicken, salmon, and vegetarian entrees.

Doors will open at 11:15 a.m., and guests can mingle and buy copies of Higgins Clark's books to have signed.
