Annual Epiphany Bonfire to Blaze this Sunday

Doylestown Presbyterian Church will host its annual Christmas tree-burning bonfire Sunday, Jan. 8.

Every year the welcomes the new year with an Epiphany Bonfire, a celebration where church members and friends gather for snacks and songs by the warmth of the fire. This year's event will take place Sunday, Jan. 8, at 4 p.m.

For more than 10 years, the community has been invited to church member Doris Carr's farm, located at 3551 Swamp Rd. (near the corner of Route 313 and Smoke Road) for the event. Attendees can enjoy hot chocolate, cookies and holiday hymns while the trees go up in flames.

"We should be actively reaching out to the community so all are welcome to the bonfire," said Lorri Camilleri, the church's communications director.

But so the bonfire flames don't get out of hand, only members can recycle their trees at the bonfire, she said after checking with the fellowship committee chairperson, John Knapp. The fellowship sponsors the event.

Though the bonfire isn’t tied symbolically to a religious celebration, the church has traditionally hosted it the weekend following the end of Epiphany (Jan. 6) as a way of gathering people together and having one last holiday-centered fling, Sandra Moyer DeHaven reported in .
