Almshouse Road Reopens in Warwick

The road had been closed so work could be done on a bridge.

A section of Almshouse Road, an important area thoroughfare, reopened on Friday, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The stretch of Almshouse Road between Mearns Road and Rushland Road in Warwick Township is now open for travel. It had been closed since February 7, so work could be done on the bridge over the Little Neshaminy Creek.

Crews restored the former structurally deficient bridge by replacing the concrete beams and bearing pads.

They also built a new concrete bridge deck and walls, milled and paved the roadway approaches, repaired the support abutments, and installed scour protection.

The one-span bridge is 142 feet long and 44 feet wide. It has two 11-foot travel lanes and two 8-foot shoulders and carries 12,333 vehicles a day. It is 51 years old.

The project is part of PennDOT’s $7,754,000 contract that also includes the rehabilitation of three additional state bridges in Bucks County and one in Montgomery County.
