4. Today apparently is both Cheesecake Day and Father-in-Law Day. Cover both by sending a cheesecake to your father in law.

5. On this day in 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare into law. Johnson signed the bill in the Truman Library in Missouri, with former President Harry S. Truman standing by. Truman then became the program's first beneficiary and received the first Medicare card. Truman was the first president to propose national health insurance, in 1945. Congress opposed the idea, then, and health insurance remains a major national issue still, more than 65 years later.
