5 Things for Friday

Plan ahead for First Friday, Labor Day and Sept. 11.

1. Weather. Nice start to the holiday weekend. National Weather Service says: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph.

2. Monday is Labor Day. Government offices and most banks will be closed, so if you need to do any banking or pay any parking tickets or whatnot, today's the day.

3. Whether you , or , First Friday is on deck tonight in downtown Doylestown. Head into town to enjoy the festivities, or out of town to avoid them. If heading in,  on the east and west sides of town.

4. Honor the fallen by challenging the living. That's the mantra of the 9/11 Heroes Run, sponsored by the Travis Manion Foundation. There's still time to register to run, or to donate to the cause, or to come out to Doylestown to cheer the runners on. The race is Sunday, Sept. 11 and starts at Burpee Park.

5. On this day in 1969, America's first automatic teller machine (ATM) makes its public debut, dispensing cash to customers at Chemical Bank in Rockville Center, New York. Today, there are more than 1 million ATMs around the world, with a new one added about every five minutes.
