Doylestown Tigers Legion Team Comes Back Strong for Game Two!

We all know the familiar, "rain, rain go away, come again another day." For the Doylestown Tigers, that could have been their mantra for Friday.

We all know the familiar, "rain, rain go away, come again another day."  For the Doylestown Tigers, that could have been their mantra for Friday.  Losing a tough game on Thursday to Stahl, Delaware, the heavens finally opened and the Tigers found themselves waiting out more storms in their hotel rooms on Friday morning.  Some took to video games, some relaxed poolside and some just ate and ate.  I even saw a few strolling through the hallways of the local mall.

But, they had one thing on their minds – to get back on the field and play the next game, and they did!

The clouds started to clear and by five o’clock, a beautiful blue sky appeared and they were more than ready to play.  And certainly, their opponent from Elkins, West Virginia, was ready too.  But, the team from Doylestown was raring to go -- or, perhaps roaring to go!

Joey Monaghan was on the mound for the last time for Doylestown, as he was leaving for college on Saturday morning.  He started with great command, but after some consecutive hits, the West Virginia team had one run on the board.  But, it was the Tigers turn now, and they turned it on.

Perhaps it was the blue skies or the underlying swagger this team brings to the field, but the air of confidence was once again in the dugout for the home team and the hits started to come.  Soon the scoreboard showed a commanding 5-1 lead for Doylestown.

Yes, you’ll see the stat sheet showing names like Alpin, Clow, Glassmire and Sebesky making great hits and scoring runs.  But it was the heart of the team connected on the bench that won this game for them.  Every inning there were cheers from the dugout encouraging each batter to do better, run faster or stretch longer to make that play.  And they did!

The Tigers won game two of the Mid-Atlantic Legion Tournament 6-1, and live to play another game on Saturday afternoon.

Each game has brought its own unique storyline.  And Friday night’s could have been Joey Monaghan’s great pitching performance - or the perfectly placed squeeze bunt - or the timely hits by this strong lineup.  They were all great, but my storyline for this team continues to be teamwork.   Team – Work!  That’s what’s getting it done for the Tigers.

Game time on Saturday should be around 3:30 p.m. at West Lawn, PA.   If you can’t be there to cheer on the team, you can follow them on Game Tracker at the following link: http://www.cstv.com/gametracker/launch/gt_mbasebl.html?event=1159823&school=fo&sport=mbasebl&camefrom=&startschool=&
