Doylestown Tigers Honored at Phillies Salute the Champions Night!

On Saturday night, the Tigers were recognized at the Phillies game as part of the Salute the Champions Night at the ballpark.

The raindrops fell, but did not dampen the spirit of the Doylestown Tigers as they waited in the right field tunnel below Citizens Bank Park.  On Saturday night, the Tigers were recognized at the Phillies game as part of the Salute the Champions Night at the ballpark.

After hours of waiting for the skies to clear, the ground crew finally came out to an anticipated applause from the crowd, most of which were huddled in the corridors to keep dry or in the seats that were covered and protected from the rain.

Soon, the familiar road-rage red jerseys of the Tigers walked onto the field with their championship banner leading the way.  They, as well as other local state championship baseball and softball teams, were announced one-by-one on the loud speaker.  The 2012 Pennsylvania State American Legion Baseball team – the Doylestown Tigers!

Soon, the images of the team were bigger than life on the Phanavision screen and the families at the game cheered on Our team.  They circled the entire field, holding the banner and enjoying a final moment in the sun … or in this case, in the rain!

After their celebratory walk, the raindrops started to fall again and the teams were ushered back underneath the stadium, but soon reunited with their families and friends.

With most of the team currently in colleges around the area, it was so good to see many come back together to celebrate a great season and championship run for the prestigious Legion trophies.

Although the actual Phillies game never took place on Saturday night, it was not a disappointment.  For the coaches, families and team members, it was another moment to remember and to continue to honor and thank the Doylestown American Legion Post #210 for their support for this, and future baseball teams in our area.

Go Tigers!  And thank you again for a great season of championship baseball.
