Swim Across America to benefit THRIVE at the Y

Central Bucks Family YMCA will kick-off its first Swim Across America event on November 9 (1-3PM) with scheduled activities throughout the following week.

Swim Across America (SAA), a national non-profit organization dedicated to fighting cancer through swimming, holds community oriented open-water and pool swims throughout the United States, each designed to fundraise for cancer research organizations.

SAA events on November 9 will partially benefit the Y’s THRIVE cancer wellness program, which provides community cancer survivors with 12-weeks of specialized personal training and wellness classes along with a family membership at the Y. The program will additionally benefit a nationwide network of cancer research, prevention and treatment organizations including Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

At the kickoff on November 9, a Family Active Play and Swim Team Relay event will take place with a Master Swim (November 11, 8:15-9:30PM), Aqua Aerobics (November 12, 9-10AM), Aqua Zumba (November 13, 8:15 to 9PM), Arthritis Therapy (November 12 or 15, 10-11AM) events offered throughout the week. There is also an option to “do your own thing” by raising funds toward your own independent swim or activity during the week.

The event is sponsored in part by Doylestown Hospital a comprehensive 238-bed medical center serving families throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties and Western New Jersey. The Cancer Institute of Doylestown Hospital and Penn Radiation Oncology at Doylestown offer comprehensive cancer treatment in an integrated environment. For information on sponsoring the event, connect with Bess Godin, senior director of mission advancement at the Y, 215.348.8131, x1124.
