Giving a voice to Veterans

Over 25 local Veterans and their families gathered on Friday, November 15 at the 3rd Annual Veterans Luncheon at Central Bucks Family YMCA. The event is intended to honor community Veterans and their families.

A military service timeline was created with each Veteran writing their name, branch and memories of service on a paper, displayed in chronological order.

Each Veteran was asked to share their story, beginning with relatives of World War I Veterans and ending with active military in attendance.

PA State House of Representative Marguerite Quinn attended the event and spoke about members of her family who served their country.

Veterans from peacetime and wartime spoke about the climate in the country during the time of their service. All of the Veterans expressed a sense of pride in their service and many felt their service changed their life and helped in their future careers. Ephe Olliver, a Veteran of the Navy, recalled his first nighttime landing on an aircraft carrier. “If I could do that, I could do anything,” he said.

Thomas Kennedy, director of the Military and Veterans program at Del Val College spoke about the Janet Manion Military and Veterans Center on their campus and programs at the college designed to help advance a student’s military career or prepare them for the transition into civilian life.
