Working to Remain Independent

Doylestown Hospital is one of a small number of hospitals in the Philadelphia area that have not joined larger health networks.

Doylestown's distance from Philadelphia may be one reason helping the community hospital remain independent, while so many other small hospitals have joined larger networks.

That's according to a business story in the Philadelphia Inquirer examining hospital affiliations around the city.

Doylestown, along with Grand View Hospital near Sellersville and Chester County Hospital in West Chester, are among the largest hospitals still able to hold out, the article said.

Being owned by the women's community group, the Village Improvement Association, also likely contributes to 's independence, the article said.

However, potential cuts in Medicare payments, which would affect a large portion of the hospital's patient base, and a negative outlook from Moody's Investors Service on its debt are factors working against the hospital, the article said.
