Weis to Reopen Doylestown Grocery

The former Genuardi's will reopen as a Weis on Saturday, June 16, the company said Monday.

Doylestown residents will have to wait only a few days before its newest grocery store opens, and pharmacy customers, even less than that.

The former Genuardi's in Mercer Square shopping center closed on Saturday June 9 at 6 p.m. Its new owners said Monday that they reopen the store's pharmacy Monday at noon and the store as a whole on Saturday, June 16, at 6 a.m.

Weis Markets, Inc. bought three Genuardi's stores, in Doylestown, Conshohocken and East Norristown. Weis spokesman Dennis Curtin said Monday that the purchase agreement will close Monday.

To staff these stores, Weis said it has hired 218 former Genuardi employees. It also added 150 positions, which Curtin said will allow each store to double the number of cashiers it employs and increase front-end service.

Founded in 1912, Weis Markets is marking 100 years of business in 2012. When it reopens the newly acquired Delaware Valley Genuardi's stores, Weis will operate 162 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia.
