'Spontaneously Exploding' Bottles Prompts PLCB Warning

Did you buy Prosecco in a Pennsylvania wine and spirits store earlier this month?

Check the label. 

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is warning customers to discard of one type of wine after reports that full bottles were "spontaneously exploding" in stores.

If you purchased a 750 ml bottle of Indigenous Selections Prosecco Brut 2013 do not open it. In fact, throw it away as soon as possible, the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board warns.

Indigenous Selections Prosecco Brut 2013 was sold for $12.99 in approximately 180 stores in Pennsylvania starting in early June. It has been removed from all state spirits stores. It has the code 33283 on it.

”Consumers should use caution when handling this product,” said PLCB Chairman Joseph E. Brion. ”While we have not had any reports from consumers who may have been affected, we want to take every precaution in order to avoid a safety issue. 

While the wine bottle should not be returned to the store, consumers will still be eligible for a refund. An original receipt will be helpful in processing the return, according to the PLCB.  For more information, call 1-800-272-7522, then press 3, or email lbconsumer@pa.gov.
