Reminder: Dog Friendly Doylestown Day

It's a perfect day to take your pooch downtown.

If you've always wanted to take your dog with you as you shop or stroll downtown Doylestown, today is your chance.

Today is “Dog-Friendly Doylestown”Day. At least 15 downtown merchants have joined together to welcome canine companions and their people into their stores.

Look for the orange emblem in the window signifying that dogs are welcome.

“Everyone wants to stop and chat with the dog and, by extension, with the person on the other end of the leash," said Victoria Schade, of Life on the Leash. "Everyone just seems friendlier.”

Special events include the “Cutest Dog and Daddy” contest at 1 p.m. on the patio at . You might even spot special guests Henry Mercer and his dog, Rollo. Dog-related drink specials will be served throughout the day and free samples of Schade’s homemade Cold Nose dog ice cream will be given out.

Other specials today:

  • will offer 20% discounts to canine shoppers that can perform a trick. 
  • Hens Teeth Rare Gifts & Collectibles will feature local artisan Joan Curtis, who will create customized pillows from Canine Candids – photographs that will then be transferred to a beautiful pillow or tote bag.
  • Siren Records will take 15% off purchases for shoppers who bring in their dog and mention Dog-Friendly Day.
  • will donate 10% of any pet-related pottery and pet figurine created to the Doylestown Dog Park.
  • will give free tennis balls to canine shoppers.

One preparation note: don't forget to pack some plastic bags to clean up after your pet, if needed.
