New York Times Best-Selling Author Visits Doylestown

Nantucket author Elin Hilderbrand spoke at Aldie Mansion to benefit the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Scholarship Fund.

The Bernie Madoff scandal was at its height, and author Elin Hilderbrand couldn't stop thinking about how lonely Ruth Madoff must've been feeling.

Hilderbrand posed two questions to herself: If Ruth was guilty of complicity in the scheme, did she deserve loneliness? and if she didn't know anything about her husband's scams but still suffered because of it, was her story more interesting?

Hilderbrand reasoned that if she wasn't guilty, then Ruth's alienation from everything that comprised her life before the scandal would make a strong premise for a storyline. And that is how Meredith Delinn, aka Silver Girl, was born.

A local audience learned firsthand how the novel Silver Girl came to be, when its author, Hilderbrand, visited Doylestown recently. The Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Committee recently hosted the New York Times best-selling author at an event at

Hilderbrand spoke about her life in Nantucket and the inspiration behind her newest book Silver Girl, published by Little, Brown and Co.

Local bookstore owner Ellen Mager of sponsored the event. Mager donated more than $600 in proceeds to the Women in Business Scholarship Fund. 

The Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce Women in Business Committee presents a deserving local woman with a scholarship to support her quest for higher education.

Hilderbrand originally hails from Collegeville, PA, and has nine books under her belt, including: The Castaways; A Summer Affair; Barefoot; Summer People and The Beach Club.

The event cost $30 and included a signed copy of Silver Girl.
