Doylestown Hospital Heart Program Recognized

Doylestown Hospital has been named to a national list of "100 Hospitals with Great Heart Programs."

The list compiled by the monthly healthcare industry publication, Becker's Hospital Review, recognizes U.S. hospitals that provide outstanding heart care.

Doylestown Hospital is the only hospital in Bucks County to garner recognition on this annual list, hospital officials said.

The medical centers on the list were selected based on "clinical accolades, recognition for quality care and contributions to the fields of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. These hospitals have been set apart for excellence in heart care and research by prominent and reputable healthcare sources and associations, including U.S. News & World Report, HealthGrades, Thomson Reuters and the American Nurses Credentialing Center," according to Becker's.

The chosen hospitals also work to educate their local communities about heart health, helping sharpen our country's focus on preventive care for heart disease, which remains the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.

Dr. John Harding, an electrophysiologist with The Richard A. Reif Heart Institute of Doylestown Hospital, said teamwork is what sets Doylestown apart--and keeps it in the company of nationally-known institutions on the list.

"We have teamwork from top to bottom and an emphasis on coordination of care," Harding said in a statement.

Doctors, nurses, staff and technicians discuss and plan care from the moment a patient enters the hospital to the moment the patient leaves, Harding said. That coordination even extends to outpatient care and relationships with specialists, he said.

"We have a very strong collaboration with a large variety of specialists," Harding said. "You add all of those in addition to the spectrum of cardiac care and you get an excellent patient experience."

The hospital's heart institute is now called the "Richard A. Reif Heart Institute of Doylestown Hospital." The new name honors the legacy of long-time Doylestown Hospital President and CEO Richard Reif, who retired this month after heading the hospital since 1989.
