Drink Beer, Help Cure Pediatric Cancer at M.O.M.'s

M.O.M.'s is holding its third annual Beers for a Cure event on July 20 to benefit pediatric cancer research.

There’s nothing like a cold beer.

Except for a cold beer that will help cure childhood cancer.

On July 20 at M.O.M.’s, you can try a range of cold brews all while supporting a fund to help fight pediatric cancer. The third annual Beers for a Cure event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. and will benefit the Michael Napoleone Memorial Foundation.

Michael Napoleone is the cousin of M.O.M.’s owners Brian and Nate Hugill. He died at 8 years old from Burkitts Lymphoma, a rare form of blood cancer.  He would have been 15 years old this year, Nate said. The family set up the memorial foundation to raise money to fight pediatric cancer.

The day features 15 top craft breweries, both local and national. Some breweries attending include Weyerbacher, Philadelphia Brewing Company, Founders, Free Will, Neshaminy Creek, Round Guys Brewery and more.

“It’s set up just like a beer festival,” said Nate. Everybody gets a small cup for tasting as well as a t-shirt. In addition to beer, there will be finger foods to munch on, as well as raffles and even beer-flavored ice cream offered by Owowcow Creamery.

Last year’s Beers for a Cure raised about $5,000 for the foundation, according to Nate. In addition, organizers also gave a donation to a local family whose daughter was fighting pediatric cancer. That child “is now totally healthy,” Nate said.

Beers for a Cure is the top fundraiser for the Michael Napoleone Memorial Foundation. Nate said it has grown “exponentially” since the first year. “We had 21 people the first year and more than 120 last year,” he said.

Nate said it’s a day he looks forward to because of the philanthropic aspect and, well let’s be honest, because it's fun.  “It was one of the most fun days of the year last year,” he said.

Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. Pre-purchasing tickets is encouraged. Click here to buy tickets online or stop by M.O.M.'s to buy them in person.
