The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 175 in Doylestown held a Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Open House on Friday March 30th 2012.

Many of our local Vietnam Veterans came together to meet, chat and share stories of their time in Vietnam.  Each Vet greeted one another with the universal Vietnam Veteran greeting of “Welcome Home”.

Music of the era played in the background including the adoptive theme song of most Vietnam Veterans – “We gotta get out of this place” by the Eric Burdon and the Animals.

Many representatives from local organizations were on hand to talk about benefits and other areas of concern for those that have served.  The reading of the Presidential Proclamation for “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day” can be viewed at

Doug Forsythe of Chapter #90 of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV),  Anthony Enck, a military affairs representative and Betty Carleo, a Veterans Aide from the Bucks County Veterans Affairs office were just some of the representatives on hand to assist the attendees in learning about  benefits both Federal and State as well as other PA legislation for Veterans.  Other areas of assistance to these Vets included: Employment Services, Agent Orange information, Pension information, Veterans’ Service Organizations Guides, State Benefits Guides and many other reference materials.   If you are a Veteran of any conflict and need information about any of these items, contact your local state or federal representative or call your local VFW.

Jack Jamison also spoke about “The Guardians of the national Cemetery”.  Jack is a member of American Legion Post 210 and serves as an honor guard at the Washington Crossing national Cemetery.  Over 3000 Veterans have been buried there since the cemetery opened less than a year ago.  Jack shared that he was on Vietnam soil in 1954, long before the increased involvement by the US.  He is looking to recruit additional guards to honor the Veterans at their burials.  If interested, the organization can be reached at 215-207-0989 or at www.guardiansofthenationalcemetery.org

Refreshments were served and thanks to many local establishments, all of the food for the meeting was donated.  Those who donated include:
