TV Producers Eyeing Doylestown for New Series

A new television series directed by M. Night Shyamalan may be filmed in Doylestown, according to a Courier Times report.

The director, who lives in the Philadelphia suburbs, is considering both Doylestown and Sellersville as the backdrop for “Wayward Pines.”

A representative from the Greater Philadelphia Film Office told the Courier Times that Shyamalan is seeking an “idyllic small-town look” near a forest with pine trees.

According to Malvern Patch, the renowned director and producer announced via Twitter in May that the Fox network had ordered 10 episodes of his "Wayward Pines" television series.

Shyamalan is familiar with Doylestown; portions of his 2002 film “Signs,” were set in Bucks County, including Doylestown Township.

The Courier Times reported that Shyamalan expects to make a decision in the next two weeks on where “Wayward Pines” will be filmed.

Meanwhile local officials are publicly encouraging the director to film in Bucks County.

“It’s very exciting that Mr. Shyamalan is considering both Doylestown and Sellersville as possible sets for an upcoming TV project.  Both locations provide the all-American, small town feel that have come to define many places around Bucks County,” Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick said.

“I am pleased that Mr. Shyamalan is once again considering setting one of his productions in our area. Besides highlighting Bucks County’s diverse mix of rolling farms, woodlands, and urban settings, the project could provide an increase in economic activity in the area,” Fitzpatrick said.

“I strongly encourage Mr. Shyamalan to consider both of these Bucks County sites and would enjoy the opportunity to discuss with him or his staff the benefits of both great locations,” the Congressman said.
