Music Comedy Co-Written by Doylestown Residents Opens Thursday

"A Most Unusual Hotel," opens at The Phillips Mill Community Association in New Hope Thursday.

An original music comedy co-written by two Doylestown residents opens this weekend in New Hope.

The play, “A Most Unusual Hotel,” opens at The Phillips Mill Community Association Thursday. The story is co-written by Kevin Nalty and Valerie Eastburn. Nalty is one of YouTube’s most-viewed creators with more than 1,000 comedy videos seen more than 250 million times.

“I had never met the Nalty family until a snow-laden tree fell over the fence of our Doylestown home and I discovered a YouTube family was literally in my back yard,” said Eastburn.

The story revolves around The Waverly Hotel, a 1940s inn that provides life-changing visits to time traveling guests, including Thomas Edison, Steve Jobs, William Shakespeare. The production also features an opera diva, Titanic travelers, and an Australian chef and his brandy-swilling mom.

Nalty plays the hotel’s proprietor. His wife, Jo, is the producer and plays a concierge who helps save the hotel of misfits.

Nalty said the script was inspired by his favorite films and TV shows such as “Fantasy Island,” “Fawlty Towers” and “Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure”.

“I love stories that involve character transformations and time shifting,” he said.

“A Most Unusual Hotel” features a five-piece band under the leadership of guitarist Rick Tyler and pianist Roburt Gajdos. The production includes musical adaptations from a hit shows as Les Misérables, Little Mermaid, Spamalot, Suessical and Wicked.

The performance features cabaret style seating and audience members are invited to BYOB and appetizers. Tickets are $30 and can be booked online by clicking here or by calling 215-794-4168.

Performances are: May 9,10,11 and 16,17,18. Friday and Saturday shows start at 8 pm; Sunday shows start at 7 p.m.

The Phillips Mill Community Association is located at 2619 River Rd, New Hope.
