Kathryn McKenna will be visiting the Doylestown Bookshop to sign copies of, A Treasured Legacy: Stories of the James-Lorah Memorial Home, a book that looks into the rich history of an often overlooked Doylestown landmark.
If you’re a Doylestonian you have passed the James-Lorah Memorial Home (JLHM) hundreds of times without knowing precisely what was on the inside. It’s the large gray house at the corner of Main and Broad Streets. The beautiful old Victorian has an interesting history that includes Henry Chapman Mercer. The last inhabitant of the house, Miss Sarah James, died in 1954 and willed the house and all its contents to the Village Improvement Association (V.I.A. of Doylestown), which continues to use the JLMH as its headquarters to this day.
