'Bubs Sing to Sold-Out Crowd

The a cappella group helped CB East raise more than $4,000 to aid Japan.

The Beelzebubs sang, joked and danced - and almost ended up as prom dates at CB East Friday night.

The all-male a cappella group from Tufts University entertained a sold-out crowd Friday night in the school's auditorium. In the end, the benefit concert raised more than $4,000, said choirmaster Scott Teschner. The money will be donated to the American Red Cross to aid in disaster efforts in Japan.

Teschner brought The Beelzebubs to the stage through an arrangement with the group's business manager, Evan Powell, a CB East graduate.

"We are very proud of Evan for what he has done," Teschner said, in introducing the college singing group.

"Hello Central Bucks East," Powell cried, running onto the stage with the group. "It is so good to be home!"

Over the next hour, the group joked and talked to the crowd in between songs such as Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline," James Taylor's "The Water is Wide," Hall and Oates "Sara Smile," and, yes, even Justin Bieber's "Baby."

They serenaded Alexandra Andrakakos, 19, and a student at Villanova.

And they taught Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecilia" to the choirs of Holicong and Tohickon middle schools and CB East, then invited the dozens of students to join them on stage to perform.

They even took questions from the audience, most of them funny.

"Will one of you go to prom with me?" called out CB East senior Aly Fagan.

"What's it like being known as the voice of the Warblers?" asked someone else, referring to the singing group on Fox's hit show Glee. The Beelzebubs supply the voclas and arrangements for the tv group.

"It is so much fun," responded Eli Seidman. "I'm taller, my hair's better, and all that stuff."

For one of their final songs, the group performed Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," earning screams and claps from the crowd. That's the first song they performed for Glee in an episode that aired in November.
