Restaurant Rehab

See the new look for Mamma D's Italian Restaurant in Pipersville, which appears at 10 tonight on Food Network's "Restaurant: Impossible."

If Robert Irvine had his way with Mamma D’s Italian Restaurant in Pipersville, you’ll see it at 10 tonight on Food Network.

Irvine is the chef/host of “Restaurant Impossible,” the show that rescues restaurants from impending failure in just two days and with only $10,000. The menu gets updated, the staff is retrained and the restaurant undergoes a design overhaul – the result of which you’ll see tonight.

Irvine and his crew were at Mamma D’s, owned by Luigi “Louie” and Liz Desiato, back in June. The show’s description says the owners were “all over the place with ideas – they have a vineyard, a farm stand, a wine store, a petting zoo and, of course, the restaurant.”

Desiato’s son, Nick, a CIA-trained chef at the restaurant the family has owned since 1996, said working with Irvine and was a “great experience.

“It was a grueling couple of days,” he said, estimating they spent about 40 hours getting to the finished product. “It was a lot of work, but we’re very happy with all the changes.”

Dinner reservations are “totally booked” for Wednesday, he said, but try again next week when the show is planned to be repeated next Wednesday at 9 p.m. A few reservations still are available for that night.

For tonight, a better tactic might be to hit up the bar, since there’ll prizes and drink specials. You may have to stand and watch the show, though, since seats will be at a premium.

If you miss tonight’s showing, you can catch it again later at 1 a.m., and also 9 p.m. Sept. 14.

Mamma D’s is at 6637 Easton Road.

The Desiato family describes their recipes as “Italian Soul Food,” food that sustained Italians in the small town and villages throughout the “boot” of Italy – seafood, vegetables and greens, polenta, pasta and smoked meats and cheeses made up menu.

Mamma D's says it’s the only restaurant in Pennsylvania that has a full liquor license and manufacturers its own wine from the family-owned Fratelli Desiato Vineyards.

You can also visit the show’s website to get the recipes featured in tonight’s episode: pasta fagioli and pan-seared bronzino with mushroom pan jus.
