PSA Addressing Heroin Abuse to Air at Bucks Movie Theaters

A PSA addressing opioid abuse will appear before all PG-13 and R-rated films for six weeks at five Bucks County movie theaters.

A public service announcement to address the increasing number of opioid abuse cases in Bucks County will air at five local movie theaters this summer.

The PSA will appear before all PG-13 and R-rated films for six weeks in the following Bucks County movie theaters: AMC Neshaminy 24, Regal Barn Plaza Stadium 14, Regal Warrington Crossing 22, Regal Oxford Valley 14 and Regal Richland Crossing 12. The PSA has begun airing and will air through early August.

The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc. and Aldie Counseling Center teamed up to create the PSA at the request of the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission, Inc.

According to the Bucks County Coroner’s Report, in 2013 there were an estimated 38 deaths identifying heroin and 4 deaths identifying fentanyl as causes of death.

"I don't recall any drug creating this kind of a crisis in our community. The pathway of opiate addiction is frightening and near epidemic,” said Bucks County Commissioner Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia. “These PSAs are an effort to try something creative but serious to stop addictions that are ripping families apart and tearing at the seams of our County."

In the last year, the District Attorney’s office has started a heroin TIP line (215-345-DRUG), The Council continues to lead the efforts with the OverdoseAdvisory Board, legislation has been introduced to help protect individualsfrom reporting an overdose, and there have been many community-led discussions and efforts to prevent opiate overdoses.
