Old Dublin Pike Bridge Reopens

The bridge had been closed since June for repairs.

The Old Dublin Pike Bridge over Pine Run has reopened.

The bridge had been closed for repairs since June. Work was done to the deteriorating bridge so it would no longer be classified as structurally deficient.

“The newly restored Old Dublin Pike bridge is a strong, safer span that will effectively serve travelers and residents in Doylestown for the next 100 years,” said PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso. “Our project transformed this bridge into one that can carry legal loads and move travelers safely.”

The newly refurbished bridge was reopened Tuesday after a guide rail was installed at the structure.

Repairs included stabilizing the support abutments, repairing concrete, sealing the deck, reinforcing the foundations beneath the abutments, reconstructing roadway approaches and installing new guide rail.

The three-span, stone masonry arch bridge was built in 1875 and reconstructed in 1947. It is 81 feet long and 24 feet wide, according to information from PennDOT. The structure carried 4,863 vehicles day prior to closing for construction.

James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc. was the general contractor on the $500,000 project. The project was financed with 100 percent state funds.
