Ideas for Home and Garden Will Bloom at Bucks Beautiful

The Home & Garden Show comes to Del Val on Friday, March 16.

The 21st Annual Bucks Beautiful Garden & Home, proudly sponsored by the Byers’ Foundation and National Penn Bank is the biggest garden and home show in Bucks County, being held on Friday, March 16, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday, March 17 & 18, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Delaware Valley College, Route 202, Doylestown, Bucks County. 

Friday, March 16, will be Preview Night, with wine, hors d’oeuvres and desserts (while supplies last) being offered by Doug’s Cakes, Memorable Affairs, Phillips Fine Wines, Rose Bank Winery, The Lucky Cup Cake Company and The Market at DelVal.   Also, artist, Nathan DeStefano will feature his art in a one-man show.  The cost for Friday night is $20 per person.

11:00 a.m. – Noon:  Phil Eiseman – Maintenance, Upgrades and Energy Efficiency for your Home 

This seminar will give a comprehensive look at how to maintain, upgrade and make your home more energy efficient.  Phil Eiseman is President of Eiseman Construction Company, Inc.; an innovator in residential remodeling for 40 years. 

1:00 – 2:00 p.m.:  Scott MeyerGrowing Food in Small Spaces

Wherever you live, you can grow some of your own food; this seminar will help you choose the best food plants for your space and conditions.  Scott Meyer is the former Editor-in-Chief of Organic Gardening magazine and author of the City Homesteader; Sufficiency on Any Square Foot.       

Sunday, March 18

11:00 a.m. – Noon:  Carter van Dyke, RLA, ASLAHow to Make Your Garden Sing through Simple Detailing

Award winning landscape architect, Carter van Dyke, will focus on the techniques and details he uses to make outdoor spaces special, by using simple details to transform a garden to spice up your property.  Carter van Dyke, RLA is president of CVDA, has been developing exceptional gardens throughout the region for the past 28 years.

 

1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Miles Arnott – Pennsylvania’s Wildflowers – Our Native Treasures

Discover the secrets of nature’s garden and the beautiful diversity of Pennsylvania’s native plants and ways to include native plants in designed naturalist landscapes.  Miles Arnott, Executive Director of Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve in New Hope, PA, focusing on conservation and educating the importance of native plant life.

 

            On Saturday, March 17, The Master Gardener Studio located in the Bucks-Mont Party Rental Tent, will present free mini-workshops on a variety of gardening demonstrations from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm.  The schedule is: 

11:00 a.m. Floral Arranging 12:00 p.m. The New Iris, Planting and Dividing; 1:00 p.m. Entering Flower Shows; 2:00 p.m. Starting Seeds. 

 

The Free “Gardening with Kids” Workshop will be held on Sunday, March 18, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. by the Penn State Cooperative Extension’s Bucks County Master Gardeners; with Kids Catch the Gardening Bug.  Children four to ten will experience a variety of gardening activities to make and take home.

Over 70 exhibitors will be on hand in three exhibit halls, featuring a wide array of gardening products and home beautification services.  Many of the vendors will offering environmentally friendly products and services.  A wealth of plants, gifts and delectable goodies will be in abundance.  

Peter Fernandez, Bucks Beautiful President states, “Our vendors are top-notch.  Please be sure to visit each booth and ask your questions, we have amassed a ton of local knowledge and expertise in a variety of fields this year.”

Beautiful landscape displays will be featured in the main exhibit hall.  Dear Garden Associates, Pipersville, Green Acres Nursery and Garden Center, Colmar, James Ponds & Lenzscaping, Warrington, Phillips Contracting, Chalfont, Professional Landscape Services, New Hope, will present an array of garden escapes.  The Upper Bucks County Area Vocational Technical School Students will present a special display showcasing the skills they have learned in class. 

Gale Nurseries, Inc., Gwynedd, will display their Bulb Planting Machine from Holland, the only one in the United States and feature their involvement with the Bucks Beautiful Bulbs for Bucks program, with a goal to plant 1 million daffodil bulbs in Bucks County.

Non-professional floral and plant enthusiasts have been invited to participate in an artistic floral & horticulture competition with four classes each.  The theme for the artistic class is The Neighborhood, ribbons for first, second and third place will be awarded in each class and a Best of Show will also be awarded.  Professional florists have been invited to display their artistic talents with the theme, Bucks County Weddings. 

Garden & Home Show Chair, Sharon Shaw encourages everyone to, “Come and enjoy the start of spring at the 2012 Bucks Beautiful Garden & Home Show.” “There is plenty of free parking on the beautiful campus of Delaware Valley College and the Garden Café will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.”
