The dog days of summer may be here, but that doesn't mean you can't find fun ways to keep cool. Here are some options:

Where/when: downtown Doylestown, Friday 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Why go: Seven-piece band, Under Cover, will perform at State and Main. The night also will feature several local artists including plein air painter Matt LeRay and Sara McCleery. Other entertainment will include magician Robert Malissa.

Why go: Learn to play - or play better - chess. Coaches will help out novice players. Bring your own set or use theirs.

Where/when: 215 E. Court St., Saturday, 10 a.m.

Why go: Learn about some of Bucks County's more prominent citizens who are buried in the cemetery. The tour will highlight their contributions to business, industry, public service and Bucks County history, while showing off the lush Victorian garden cemetery at its finest.

Why go: Children and parents can explore Henry Mercer’s castle from basement to tower and learn about his creative ideas through stories and prints.

Why go: $3 for as much merchandise as you can fit into a bag.

Cost: Free to enter; items vary

 

Where/when: Historic Moland House, 1641 Old York Road, Hartsville, Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go: Learn how events at this location played an important role in our nation’s fight for independence.

Cost: Free, donations accepted.

Why go: You could land a role in the Village Players’ upcoming comedy, "The Fox on The Fairway"
