Daffodils Bloom Along Doylestown Bypass

The spring flowers didn't grow there by accident.

Drivers heading into or out of Doylestown in the past few days have been greeted by a cheery sight.

Hundreds of yellow daffodils are blooming in the areas next to bypass on and off ramps.

But they didn't sprout by accident, or by nature.

Bucks Beautiful planted more than 30,000 daffodil bulbs this past winter in the "Bulbs Along the Bypass" program, an effort to spruce up the area. The group is a nonprofit effort of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce.

Next up, the group plans to plant 300,000 daffodil bulbs - yes, you read that number correctly - along the Delaware Canal in "Color Along the Canal."

In the end, the group is aiming to plant 1 million daffodil bulbs all across Bucks County.

Bucks Beautiful began in 1990, started by local community and business leaders Bob and Joyce Byers, of Byers Choice, and Jack and Carol McCaughan, of Doylestown. The group's mission is to enhance the beauty of Bucks County with flowers and gardens visible from the roadside.

The bulbs for "Bulbs Along the Bypass" were donated by Byers and Mike Feeney of Feeney’s Nurseries and Chuck Gale of Gale Nurseries. Peter Fernandez of Carter van Dyke & Associates designed the layout.

The following businesses planted the bulbs:

  • Bucks Country Gardens, Doylestown
  • Dear Garden Associates, Inc., Pipersville
  • Environmental Landscape Associates, Doylestown
  • Gale Nurseries, Inc., Gwynedd
  • Nickett Landscaping, Doylestown
  • Professional Landscape Services, New Hope
  • Schumacher Landscape Construction, Furlong

Additional contributors were made by  Dublin Agway, Dublin; Green Acres Nursery, Colmar and Landscape Design Group, Inc, Doylestown.
